![]() However DF M+ tend to have much more consistent incoming damage so healers will have to heal more than in previous expansions. On top of that, given the infinite scaling, at some points most misplayed mechanics will simply oneshot players, so you won't have to heal up their mistakes. M+ dungeons tended to have more downtime for healers and you can't remove the only healer in the group, so healer damage was more important than in raids. ![]() However, there is quite a bit of nuance here between incoming damage and healing patterns, requirements for raid cooldowns (you might need more healers just for cooldowns than for healing sustained damage), specifics of positioning, certain abilities, the degree that your particular raid had progressed a particular fight and so on. It really depends on the design of a given encounter, but in mythic raiding the answer is more of no than yes, and if you are overhealing the fight, you can just swap some healers for DPS players. So I guess this means that in current retail, there are lots of downtime for healers? ![]() All that being said, if you're timing the key and it's a smooth run, it probably doesn't matter much. But I personally do about 15k dps on every pull and every boss fight. Nothing crazy of course, you're still a healer. All of these things will add up and give you time to do damage. There's also the pots that give you 15 seconds of free casting which should be used often. Innervate should also be used more than 10 times in any mythic, maybe closer to 15 times. A good tank will use their CDs and a lot of GCDs get wasted on them. Lifebloom should be used for most healing (cheap mana cost) and never use regrowth on a target that doesn't already have HoTs on them or it will be a complete waste of mana. Also, the biggest mistake I see other druids make is keeping lifebloom up on the tank at all times instead of on squishy dps and themselves (just for the better healing if you are specced for it). These will all reduce the amount of time you spend healing. I love being a healer so much BECAUSE of the almost dance-like nature of healing, utility, and dps that we bring to encounters!Īre you using CDs when available? Ironbark, flourish, convoke. Start with insta casts and then move to anything that may need to be hard casted. Heal first, then weave in DPS as you don’t need healing. While “parsing” is a slippery slope, it was funny to me that I could get 99 Disc Priest parses just by doing the bare minimum of keeping SW:Pain and Devouring Plague on the boss □.īack on target, I strongly urge you to ease into it. Guildies that have started in BFA or SL had an easier time picking up healing than those who hadn’t done it in a few expansions (like before WoD) even though they still played the game.Īnecdotally, I went back into Wrath Classic with a “retail mentality” and it was pretty interesting to see how comfortable people were with just… standing around doing nothing. But I can see how jarring it would be to plop into retail after being used to older ways of healing. The addition of more Healer DPS was gradual. Conversely with guildies I’m hitting at least 17k DPS overalls.įunny you mention “back in Wrath”. For some context, I’ve done a few PUG Mythic 0s and when the group just stands in bad stuff the entire time my DPS overall is in the 6k range. Just know that different dungeons make this easier or harder and depending on your group you may be stuck healing more. So to make timers EVERYONE should contribute to DPS. Mythic + is a bit different because it’s both a smaller party and it’s timed. So if 1 is being handled, do what you can to make 2 happen :) Rshams can do damage with Fire Shock/Lava Burst and Healing Rain with the Acid Rain talent. I also now have Natures Vigil which converts healing into damage over 30s. As a Resto Druid it’s very easy to just toss out a Moonfire/Sunfire/Starsurge while I’m moving. What about those of us that can’t heal through damage? Mainly we can just add in things that are instant cast. Holy Paladins specifically have added a non-negligible amount of DPS while still healing very well, for a while now. Being there lends itself to being able to toss in more DPS abilities. So you will be targeted by melee mechanics and are expected to be in melee range. Mistweaver and Holy Paladin also perform differently than they have in the (distant) past as these two are classified as ‘melee’. But mainly they also just get more resources (Holy Power) while also weaving in damaging abilities like Crusader Strike. Holy Paladin also soooort of adds healing with their Consecrate. ![]() Mistweaver also does this via some of their Faeline talents and Ancient Teachings. They then do damage with more-or-less DPS spells and a portion of that damage turns into healing on anyone with Atonement on them. Discipline Priests apply a ‘buff’ to teammates. One thing not really touched on is that a few classes use damage as PART of their healing toolkit.
